Overview

Shaba was made world famous owing to its connections with the conservationists Joy and George Adamson and their film 'Born Free'. It is where Joy set free 'Penny' the leopard. This very elegant camp has been constructed on the site of Joy Adamson's original tented home, overlooking a natural spring and watering hole, perfect for viewing game such as lion, elephant and buffalo.

Rich with amazing wildlife such as lions, elephant, leopard, generuk, the Somali ostrich , lesser kudu, reticulated giraffe and zebra. The Shaba National Reserve promises game drives never to be forgotten.

Accommodation

Joy's Camp has 10 elegant, 100sq metre canvas bedrooms (tents) which are on raised platforms ensuring outstanding views. The tents have hot water, electricity, veranda and viewing deck with stunning views of Shaba Hill. All tents have been individually decorated using the fabrics of the local nomadic tribes and handmade glass creating an air of sophistication and elegance.

Our opinion

In our opinion the accommodation at Joy's Camp is truly the top end of the market. The rooms are large, extremely comfortable and very stylishly furnished. The food served is beautifully prepared and delicious. The service provided can only be described as excellent. The staff at the camp are friendly, informative and very passionate about what they do and go out of their way to make everyone’s stay special. The camp brings to life the history of Joy Adamson and Penny the leopard, and has many of her possessions and photographs which are very interesting to see. For guests interested in a little Kenyan history along with amazing wildlife experiences, Joy's Camp is the ideal place. It is hard to imagine anyone being disappointed with this camp.
