FAQ

How do you get there?
The nearest international airport is Nairobi. From there you can either transfer by road (6 hours) or by air (1 hour).

When is best to visit?
Any time is good. The coolest month is July, with January and February being the warmest. During the short rains of November, there may be brief showers several times per night. During the long rains (April to mid-May), there will be nights with a lot of heavy showers. During and after the rains the ranch is particularly attractive. At this time, everything is green and the elephant population is at its peak. Kilimanjaro will have snow peaks, all will be blossoming.

What wildlife will we see?
We cannot guarantee anything however you are likely to see: Elephants, Lions, Buffalo, Rhino, Cheetah, Leopard, Gazelle, Monkeys as well as numerous other mammals, birds, reptiles, trees and plants.

Are children welcome?
Yes, indeed, but as long as you and your children understand fully what a safari experience is all about. Keep in mind that Campi ya Kanzi is not a resort with a swimming pool, or with an area where children can be left unattended to play.

Accommodation

The camp offers room for 16 guests in 6 luxury tented cottages and 2 suites. Each tented cottage enjoys a different view, and accommodates one or two adults. An extra bed can be added for a child.

The suites feature king-size beds, a clothes room between the bedroom and the bathroom, and a sitting area next to the bed. Bathrooms have double sinks. Both suites enjoy an astonishing view of the lodge's waterhole and of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Both tented cottages and suites are constructed of stones, canvas, and wood, and they feature a full elegant bath with shower, bidet, basin, flush toilet and electric light. Brass plumbing fixtures add an unexpected touch of elegance and comfort, with hot (solar heated) and cold running water.

Each tented cottage has a wide veranda to let you enjoy superb views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Tsavo Hills, and the Chyulu Hills. Our state-of-the-art solar power system provides 220-volt electricity for your cottage at any time (plugs and sockets are 2 pins, Italian).

With only six tented cottages and two suites, there is ample distance from one to the other to guarantee every guest's privacy. Each tented cottage has a dedicated Maasai attendant. At night, Maasai askari (night watchmen) patrol the camp.

Environment and local community

Unique is rather an overused (and often abused) term, but that's what Campi ya Kanzi truly is. Unlike other lodges, it is not in a National Park (with crowds of visitors) or in a small, privately owned concession. Instead, it is a community eco-lodge, offering an authentic experience of an iconic Africa, rich in wildlife, wilderness and culture.

The diversity of the landscape, and consequently of the wildlife, is tremendous. You can spend a week here, enjoying and discovering something different everyday, combining traditional game drives with unforgettable game walks, while being deeply immersed in the Maasai culture.

Campi ya Kanzi contributes significantly to the preservation of those assets it shares with its guests: Maasai wilderness, cultural and wildlife heritages. At the same time, it offers an unmatchable, unique experience.

Campi ya Kanzi - Maasai

Our opinion

Campi ya Kanzi has demonstrated that conservation and style not only can coexist but complement each other as guests at Campi ya Kanzi contribute to the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust $100 for each day they stay.

We also like the fact that the entire camp has been built with local materials using traditional skills.

This is an owner run lodge and it shows in the camps warm homely atmosphere and attention to detail. This camp consistently delivers and should be enjoyed by everyone.
